The St. Michaels Middle High School Drama Department proudly presents Tarzan! Based on Disney's epic animated musical adventure and Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan of the Apes, Tarzan features heart-pumping music by rock legend Phil Collins and a book by Tony Award-winning playwright, David Henry Hwang. High-flying excitement and hits like the Academy Award winning You'll Be in My Heart, Son of Man, and Two Worlds make Tarzan an unforgettable theatrical experience, sure to delight audience members of all ages. Tarzan tells the classic tale of a shipwreck that leaves an infant boy orphaned on the shores of West Africa. Taken in by a tribe of gorillas, the helpless baby is adopted and raised by the mate of the gorilla tribe's leader, who is grieving the loss of her own baby. As he grows, the young boy yearns for acceptance from his ape father while struggling to understand his own uniqueness. Now a man, Tarzan encounters strangers like himself for the first time when a human expedition enters the gorillas' territory. Among the humans is Jane Porter, a curious young explorer - as Tarzan and Jane get to know one another, all of their worlds are transformed, in the end affirming that while they are of two worlds, they are one family.
Produced and directed by Amy Effler with assistant director Chris Flaherty, Tarzan brings to the SMMHS stage a cast combining seasoned veterans and fresh new faces: Jacob Wheatley as Tarzan, Mackenzie Campbell as Jane, Zoe Thomas as Kala, India Tran as Terk, Jack Gill as Kerchak, Bradley Duley as Young Tarzan, Seth Wagner as Clayton, Collin Campbell as Porter, Mr. Nick Werner as Snipes, Tori Gomez as Young Terk, Tess Moayadi as Leopard, Ms. Colleen Kuzma as Mother, Mr. James Kunz as Father, and an ensemble including Kelsey Abbott, Hannah Bagley, Lillianna Ball, Becca Bibeau, Avery Brown, Armonie Cooper, Emily Dobson, Helen Fegan, Jayde Gilliece, Belle Jones, Anna Kabler, Amira King, Cara McCue, Madison Morris, Macy Motovidlak, Emma Myers, Lilly Myers, Kaila Regan, Javen Smoak, Sarah Spittler, Katie Stang, and Orissa Thomas.
