The St. Michaels Middle High School Drama Department proudly presents Seussical the Musical!  Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty transport us to a whimsical world that is both familiar and dear to the hearts of kids aged 1 to 101, lovingly bringing to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters.  The Cat in the Hat (Jasper Dudley) tells the story of Horton the Elephant (Elliott Fisher).  Horton discovers a speck of dust inhabited by small beings called Whos - one of "Who"m is JoJo (Mackenzie Campbell), a Who child with a big imagination.  JoJo's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mayor (Stewart Mitchell and Lissa Einhorn), believe JoJo thinks too many "thinks" and send her off to military school and the instruction of General Genghis Khan Schmitz (Krystle Ashman).  Horton faces a double challenge – not only must he protect JoJo and the rest of the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird (Hannah Gill).  Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz (Bailey Swann) never loses faith in him.  Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.  Adventures abound, and there is much to be found!  Along the way, we also meet the Sour Kangaroo (Krystle Ashman), the Bird Girls (Lissa Einhorn, Emma Myers, and Sophia Cumbo), the Wickershams (Stewart Mitchell, Ziola Berry, and Alinne Delgadillo), Thing 1 and Thing 2 (Ross Wocjik and Alex Spittler), assorted Whos (Becca Bibeau, Cora Fluharty, Julie Swaine, and India Tran), Yertle the Turtle (Hannah Gill), and the Grinch himself (Mr. Nick Werner)!  Be sure to join us for Seussical - it's a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza that's loads of fun for the whole family!

Performances will be in the St. Michaels Middle High School Theater, 200 Seymour Ave. in St. Michaels.  Opening night is Friday, March 15 at 7 PM.  Three more performances will follow, with two performances on Saturday, March 16 at 1 PM and 7 PM, and the final performance on Sunday, March 17 at 1 PM.  Tickets, $10 for adults and $5 for students, can be purchased at the door, and are also available in advance at the St. Michaels Middle High School office and Reeser's Pharmacy in St. Michaels, and Crackerjacks in Easton.  The doors will open one half hour before performance time.

Directed by Heather Schimpf and produced by Carol Reed, Seussical the Musical is performed by a talented cast of 18 middle and high school students and one faculty member.  The tradition from previous shows of live orchestral accompaniment will continue with Seussical.  This year's orchestra is conducted by Heather Schimpf, featuring SMMHS students Kathy Mitchell, Reed Trevelyan, and Jamie Flood, as well as local professionals and community members Diane Thomas, Lindsey Stewart, Scott Schimpf, Michael Geoffroy, Dave Fairbanks, Brian Robinson, and Bill Gross.

The St. Michaels Middle High School production of Seussical the Musical is made possible by support from Talbot County Public Schools, our local business community, and individual donors.
